CITY LIFE & CAREER

Jat has made remarkable contributions to the City of London and the accountancy profession through an illustrious career spanning decades. Starting his journey with Deloitte and later KPMG, Jat managed major clients, including FTSE 30 companies, global banks, and a prominent leisure conglomerate. At Grant Thornton, as a senior manager, he led the financial services group, guiding investment trusts, unit trusts, and hedge funds through UK registration and regulatory compliance.
Founding and Leading a Boutique Firm
Jat founded his boutique accountancy firm, which thrived for 20 years, uniquely recognised by the FCA for auditing hedge funds and investment businesses. His work with one hedge fund contributed to its growth to £2.5 billion in assets. A collaborator at heart, Jat prioritised client needs by leveraging partnerships for technical expertise, embodying professionalism and client-centric values.
Breaking Barriers at the ICAEW
Deeply committed to his profession, Jat made history in 1998 as the first Sikh elected to the ICAEW Council, serving for 15 years. His tenure included roles on pivotal committees like the Investment Authorisation and Audit Registration Committees, reflecting his dedication to shaping and upholding the profession’s integrity. His legacy extends to his family, with his daughter a Chartered Accountant and his son-in-law nearing qualification.
Transforming Businesses Through Entrepreneurship
Beyond accountancy, Jat’s entrepreneurial ventures have transformed businesses. He revitalised a struggling care home into a premier facility and rescued a distressed fast-food franchise with over 100 stores, turning it profitable within a year. These successes underscored his practical expertise, earning trust and admiration from consulting clients.
Supporting the Corporation of London
Jat’s contributions to the City include supporting the Corporation of London and fundraising for the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal, notably organising a red Routemaster bus in the Lord Mayor’s Show, a creative initiative featured on the BBC.
Leadership in the Livery Movement
As Middle Warden of the Company of Entrepreneurs, Jat exemplifies leadership and vision. Expected to become its first Sikh Master in 2026, he will make history in the Livery movement.
Commitment to Governance and Philanthropy
A long-time member of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Accountants and Patron of the Entrepreneurs Charitable Trust, Jat’s unwavering dedication to governance, philanthropy, and excellence continues to inspire and shape the City’s legacy.
