COMMUNITY INITIATIVES

Community Initiatives

Jat is deeply committed to supporting the local community, particularly when he identifies opportunities to make a significant impact.

Prostate Cancer Screening

Recognising a critical gap in NHS services, Jat noticed that prostate cancer screening (PSA tests) for men aged 40 to 65 was not routinely supported. Despite one in eight men in this age group being affected by prostate cancer—one of the leading causes of male cancer deaths—there is no NHS pathway for early detection, unlike the support available for women’s breast cancer.

To address this, Jat initiated a collaboration between the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust, the Worshipful Company of Apothecaries, and the Company of Entrepreneurs. This partnership reduced the cost of PSA testing from over £80 to £35 and established a screening centre in the heart of the City of London, conveniently located for working professionals. This initiative marked the first such effort in over a decade and proved highly successful.

In light of recent awareness raised by figures like Chris Hoy, Jat has been asked to arrange additional screenings. He is currently working with the Corporation of London to organise further testing early next year.

Jat’s proactive approach exemplifies his ability to identify pressing issues and take decisive action to address them. Jat’s impact extends well beyond the City of London. His global contributions illustrate his deep desire to make a difference on an international scale, not just in London.

Tackling Water Pollution in Kenya

One of his most ambitious international projects involves the Lake Victoria Project in Kenya. While Lake Victoria is one of Africa’s most polluted water bodies, spanning three countries, Jat has initiated the construction of a water treatment plant that will provide clean water to over 3,000 people living near the facility. This project highlights his commitment to improving public health in areas facing significant environmental challenges.

Supporting Global Eye Health

In the healthcare sector, Jat supports organisations like LV Prasad Eye Hospital and the Amrita Drishti Urban Eye Health Programme. He recently donated a retinoscope camera, a critical tool that will help the Amrita Drishti Programme’s Vision Center to conduct up to 2,000 eye tests per year in slum areas, speeding up diagnosis and treatment for those who need it most.

Leadership in Operation Eyesight UK

Jat also served as Chairman of Operation Eyesight UK, where he worked for over a decade to restore sight to individuals in India and Ghana. His work has been transformative, providing life-changing surgeries and setting up sustainable healthcare models that continue to benefit communities long after he stepped down.
